WHY CREATE A NEW BUILDING MATERIAL?
Buildings consume more energy than any other sector of the U.S. economy including transportation and industry. Buildings together use one-third of all the energy consumed in the U.S., and two-thirds of all electricity. During 2006 alone, America’s residential and commercial structures used over 33 quadrillion Btu’s of energy with over half consumed for heating and cooling. In addition, heating and cooling of buildings is a leading contributor of greenhouse gas emissions releasing over 1.2 trillion pounds of CO² into the atmosphere each year. In fact, over 53% of all direct CO² emissions per household are released due to heating and cooling of homes. To address these concerns, Phase Change Energy Solutions offers simple, economic and environmentally friendly solutions which dramatically reduce heating/cooling energy use. BioPCMTM is formulated around a fundamental property of nature – the natural tendency of materials to absorb heat when they melt (phase change from solid to liquid) and to release heat when they solidify (phase change from liquid to solid). When phase change materials are placed in a building, they absorb heat during the day and release heat into the building at night. BioPCMTM dramatically reduces temperature fluctuation within the building and thereby reduces HVAC demand.
BioPCMTM is easily integrated into existing designs. The addition of ENRG Blanket into an existing plan may yield up to 30% energy savings. In the exterior walls, 16.5” wide ENRG Blanket is simply stapled to the studs over the standard insulation. In ceilings ENRG Blanket is placed over the sheet rock in the attic before insulation is applied. The product can be easily trimmed around wall outlets and fixtures with scissors or a utility knife. BioPCMTM has a thermal storage capacity of approximately 190 joules per gram, or 180 BTU per kg. We offer various thermal mass weights, but our three most popular products are: M 27, M 51 and M 91 with the number referring to the number of Btu’s of energy storage capacity per square foot of product. The loading varies depending on the actual weather patterns around the installation region and where the material is being placed within a building. We stock a number of standard temperature materials for typical building applications but can blend custom phase transition temperature materials for specialty applications.
A TOTAL GREEN SOLUTION
Our ENRG Blanket products allow consumers to integrate environmentally friendly bio-based phase change materials into new and existing buildings. Additionally our product uses a proprietary blend of fire suppressant which has won the highest environmental product award issued by the European Union as it is 100 percent non-toxic, biodegradable and sustainable. Use of BioPCMTM will dramatically reduce energy consumption and lower direct greenhouse emissions.
